Pauntley Court has joined up with Gun Dog Gin, a local Herefordshire distillery, to create our very own quince flavoured gin using this golden 'pear-like' fruit from the gardens at Pauntley Court.
The History of the Quince
Elinor Fettiplace's Receipt Book
Elinor Fettiplace place was the last of the Whittington family (one Dick's descendants) to live at Pauntley in the late 1500s, her original recipes were found and have been published, giving a wonderful insight into Elizabethan cookery.
"And so to the magical quince, the golden apple of the Greeks, symbol of love and happiness, sacred to Venus who is often depicted holding one in her hand."
